Plastic chair redesign: 6.8 kg → 4.5 kg.
The subject
Redesign of an existing injection-moulded garden chair to optimise weight and cost for mass production. The objective: simplify the structure, reduce material usage and improve manufacturability while keeping a strong, modern design identity. Iterative development in close collaboration with the supplier, with several variants tested and optimised.
What it delivers — Weight down from 6.8 kg to 4.5 kg — a third less material — production cost significantly lowered, and ergonomics improved.
My contribution
